Monthly Insights to Live by....

Aquarius

The
month of Aquarius 2010
Mars is
retrograde and the great moment in that dance is the 29th of January.
It is the perfect time to explore the hero archetype in all it's glory and
horror both in ourselves and the larger culture. If you would like to come to my
workshop contact
me.
If you would like to know the sign and phases of
the moon follow me on twitter.com. juliesimmonsast is where you will find me. I
try to update it every day or so as the wheel turns.
January 19th
Sun enters Aquarius: 11:28 PM EST
Well, there is the Age of Aquarius which is
taking seemingly forever to start but once a year we have a mini Age of Aquarius
called a month. Idealistic and high minded, egalitarian, intellectual and
willing to challenge the status quo; these are the positive traits of Aquarius.
Then there is the block-headed, rigid thinking, stodgy side where one lives so
deeply in the mind that it’s easy to forget to take a shower. Do not neglect the
body in favor of the mind this month. Even if it’s cold, take a walk, go to the
gym, do yoga or go all out and ski or snowshoe. The absolute best knowledge is
the kind that is connected to the physical world. Otherwise it has about as much
substance as a cloud blowing by on a windy day.
January 22nd
Venus trine Saturn
Love is supported by circumstance. Do what you
can to make love real and to infuse circumstance with value and beauty.
January 24th
Sun trine Saturn
The theme continues. Solid as a rock are the
ideals that uphold the heart’s desire. Be good, kind and take the time to have
something really worthwhile to say. All your aspirations will be supported by
intelligent thinking.
January 27th
Venus opposite Mars
Love and Strife. We generally agree that Love is
the good guy and Strife should be locked up and throw away the key. But if you
think about it they are a pair. Love is what brings us here and once we are here
we have to deal with all the challenges. It’s the challenges that wake us up. So
today try to negotiate between love which offers comfort, and challenge which
helps us to become the awakened beings we strive to be.
January 29th
Sun Opposite Mars
This is the Big Day for the Mars Retrograde
dance. The warrior challenges the king; the terrorist and the soldier face off.
But the king is in the sign of his detriment (Aquarius) and Mars is in the sign
of the King (Leo). Oy! The only hope is whole-hearted non-attachment. Inadequate
rulers (a dime a dozen these days) should look out. Maybe not exactly today but
generally speaking the challenge to their authority is no joke. I guess it goes
without saying that it is the nature of inadequate people in roles they are not
fit to inhabit to be paranoid. How does this matter to you in your personal,
‘little’ life. Where are you brave enough to challenge the assumption that there
is only one way to proceed? The moment is now and the issue is whatever is
staring you in the face.
If the sky is clear you might take a look after
the sun goes down for the reddish planet rising in the east near the moon. They
will travel together across the sky all night so anytime is good once the dark
descends. For a while, Mars will ‘rule’ the night sky. Something the Sun can
never do. For a while the will is free in as much as we have the choice to surrender to the
moment consciously or unconsciously.
"If time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an
abstraction
Remaining perpetually possible
Only in a world of speculation.
What has been and what might have been
Point to one end. The present moment."
Burnt Norton T.S.
Eliot
January 29th
Full Moon: 10 degrees of Leo 1:17 AM EDT
It’s all about Mars. All about opposition and
wholehearted non-attachment. Glad to be alive under any circumstances, under the
full moon.
January 31st
Saturn square Pluto (again)
As if Mars wasn’t enough. Here come the big guns.
They started up on November 15th. So far they have been the symbol
for a failed climate change summit and a devastating earthquake. (Not to mention
a prorogued parliament.) How do we fight? How do we rise to the occasion
and do what is just? What are the rules of engagement? How can we negotiate for
the Good of All? It is possible, it is necessary, it is inevitable. Why not live
as if we have already figured it out?
Early February is the time of year when the days
are getting noticeably longer. We say it is the
quickening of the year. It is a time to celebrate the growing power of the
Sun's light in the Northern Hemisphere and the awakening of the land that
happens on account of that. We stoke the fires even as we sense the inevitable
melt and stretch of Spring which will come. A generally good time to focus your
goals or align with your dreams.
February 6th
Mercury sextile Uranus
Jupiter sextile Pluto
There is always another way to see things. Today
that other way is an opportunity to make a quantum leap that could transform
your life. Look for it. I heard somewhere that lucky people tend to notice when
synchronicity happens. Be lucky. Take notice.
February 8th
Venus conjunct Neptune
There is beauty everywhere: inside and out. See
it in the sky, in the light, inside your heart. Winter challenges us to see
beauty especially if we live in the city. Don’t waste your soul on virtual
beauty. Today we need the kind of beauty that tears us up with its impossibility
and yet makes us whole even as we are torn.
February 10th
Mercury in Aquarius
Time to think as though we understand, as though
we are knowledgeable, as though we have read the whole book, not just the quotes
at the beginnings of the chapters. There is nothing so wonderful as a library
when Aquarius is in the picture.
February 11th
Venus enters Pisces
She loves Pisces, they say. She is exalted here.
Beauty is at her best when the soul gets involved. Pisces can go either way.
(All signs can go either way in their own way.) One way is to sell the soul to
the prevailing trend which is generally aimed at consumption and leads to
addiction. The other way is to reach toward the ineffable present in acceptance
of its perfect manifestation. The second choice is more difficult, more
subjective and offers the possibility of bliss.
February 12th
Mercury trine Saturn
Evangeline Adams said
that ‘Mercury without Saturn is like an egg without salt.” Certainly we could
agree with her that a mind (Mercury), even a brilliant one, without discipline
(Saturn) is not very
tasty! Even the smallest amount of discipline applied to a thought or insight
will be well worth the effort today.
February 13th
New Moon: 25 degrees of Aquarius 9:53PM EST
Mercury opposite Mars (retrograde)
This moon is a time to imagine the highest we can
achieve. Not to go about achieving it but to give full freedom for our
aspirations to express themselves in our conscious mind. Intention is what this
is about. It is best, when making intentions at the New Moon to wait until after
the actual moment to do your intending so tonight after 10 PM or tomorrow are
the
best times for intentions. Once you have declared your intentions to yourself, the
heavens, a friend or the wind don’t be surprised if you get feedback. To aspire
is human, to achieve our aspirations exactly as we conceive them is beyond
divine.
February 14th
Valentine's Day (as if you needed me to remind
you...)
Sun conjunct Neptune
A romantic moment to be sure. If the object of
your affections is known to you, lavish her or him with your finest image of
love. If you are not hooked up with someone specific this is an Aquarian moment.
Love your friends. Chocolate can taste just as good with a friend as it does
with a lover. For many people, in fact, chocolate IS the lover. Just for today.
February 15th
Venus sextile Pluto
Mars sextile Saturn
If we catch love and put it in a jar or the
fridge where it can’t spoil we kill it. Today is a good day to give freedom to
love and see how it transforms. Meanwhile look for every opportunity to show up
for your most creative acts. For an action to be truly noble it must be informed
by a higher purpose.
February 16th
Venus conjunct Jupiter
Mardi Gras
Fat Tuesday! Venus and Jupiter are right into
that. Venus is exalted in Pisces and Jupiter is at home. They are having a good
time. Nothing succeeds like excess! Today at any rate.
